Synopsis:
The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare s newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. “Lady Midnight” is a Shadowhunters novel.
It s been five years since the events of “City of Heavenly Fire” that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.
Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn t lead her in treacherous directions
Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark who was captured by the faeries five years ago has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind and they need the Shadowhunters help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?
MY THOUGHTS
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
Why I didn’t read this sooner, I don’t know. This book was so good. I loved it. Cassandra Clare continues to amaze me. I just love all the characters in this book. The Blackthorns are great. I love Emma and Cristina. I love this entire book. If you haven’t read The Shadowhunter Chronicles, then I highly suggest you do. They’re all full of amazingness (is that even a word?? it is now)
The Blackthorns are my new babies. I just love them so much. Ty and Livvy make my heart melt. Tavvy is so cute. Mark, he just amuses me. Now I feel that I’m forgetting someone (haha). Dru is so feisty. Julian is my new bae. just want to cry in a corner. He’s had such a hard time.I love ’em all. Emma is so badass. She’s a little frustrating sometimes *cough* the ending *cough*, but she’s so funny and her fighting skills are top-notch. And Cristina, we all need a friend like Cristina. The twins are adorable and #goals. They’re so cute.
My heart aches for Julian and Emma. They just love and need each other so much and cannot do nothing about it. It hurts. And then Emma makes the stupid move at the end of the book. We all know Jules’s heart will shatter because Emma is “dating” Mark. They just love each other so much. Their dancing scene kept me on edge. And this might come as a surprise, but I did not know what was happening in Emma and Julian’s beach scene. I honestly could not figure what was actually happening. *sigh*. That birth control rune though. If these two do not get some kind of happy ending, I will die. I’m not prepared.
I love Ty. He is my precious baby. He has autism and I love him. He always wants to help but struggles to show his feelings. Livvy is so special. I love them. And then Ty went with Jules and Emma to Johnny Rook, I was living for it.
I did not expect Kit to be a Herondale. LIKE AT ALL. I just read TFSA and learnt about The Lost Herondale. Here is my review. I never in a million years expected that plot twist. I knew we’d learn about that family line but never so soon. Cassie is the queen. I already love Kit and I can’t for the life of me figure out what kind of relationship will form between Ty and him. Romance or friendship? We’ll have to wait and see.
Tavvy is adorable. I love the scene when Julian comes back to the Mark and the kids and finds a mess. It was so funny. I have no idea what Dru was drinking and why she would want to. And how Tavvy landed up in a bag of sugar, I don’t know. I loved it.
I don’t like Diego. Something is up with him. Something fishy. Cristina should be with Mark. Diana too. Something is up and I need to know.
That whipping scene had me screaming. I was petrified and gasping and yelling and dying right there. I knew Julian wouldn’t let Mark get whipped. Mark shouldn’t get whipped. But I didn’t want to witness Julian’s pain either. I couldn’t handle it. They were all screaming and I was screaming. It was too much. I DO NOT like Kieran after that scene. How dare he insult Julian like that and hurt Mark?? I applaud Mark for beating him up. YOU GO MARK. I didn’t survive that scene. And then afterwards Julian was carrying Emma around like a baby because she ached and my heart was hurting. It still is even as I’m writing this. Then Julian’s studio and all his paintings of Emma and I just can’t. The rest of these books will be the death of me.
Let’s talk Malcolm. Again something I never expected. I didn’t see him being the Guardian. I trusted him from the beginning and never saw it coming. And now Annabel is more than likely coming back and I’m very scared to see what’s going to happen. I mea, it’s Cassie, we never know what we’re getting ourselves into until it’s too late.
I loved this book. It’s so different from the other Shadowhunter books and I had a great time. It is amazing and I’m not prepared for more because I know my heart will break. It’s amazing and fantastic and spectacular. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
