TYPES OF READING SLUMPS THAT WE BOOKWORMS HAVE TO SUFFER

Okayyy so I’m in a bit of a slump and what better blog post then this? Let’s just get right into the kinds od terrors we all have to survive in the book world. Also, I feel like before we all joined this community, as wonderful as it is, slumps never existed back then but now… #thestruggleisreal

THE “NOTHING IS LIVING UP TO THIS BOOK” SLUMP

This is the slump that happens when you’ve read an amazing book and now you have no idea what you want to read and struggle to pick up another book because it doesn’t feel like this amazing book you’ve just read. This happens to me quite a lot because I basically love all books and then I never know what to read.

THE “TOO BUSY TO READ” SLUMP

This happens quite often I think. You get busy at school (or work) and don’t read for 3 weeks and then suddenly you have LOADS of time and don’t want to read. It really sucks because it’s nobody’s fault and the books are crying for help and we have to be evil and tell them we can’t help them. Poor books. They don’t deserve this.

THE “BOOK EVERYONE SAYS IS AMAZING THAT I’M NOT ENJOYING & FORCE MYSELF TO FINISH” SLUMP

This is when you pick up a book because it has amazing reviews and you land up not liking but push through, hoping it’ll get better, which it doesn’t and now you’re scared of ever reading again out of fear of what you just went through.

THE “CURRENTLY BINGE-WATCHING A NETFLIX SHOW” SLUMP

I’m sorry if you don’t have Netflix and cannot relate but it’s the best place to binge tv shows and also sometimes puts you in a slump, as seen above. Yeah this happens… you’re obsessed with a show and don’t feel like reading until you finish the entirety of the show and then it’s over and you still don’t want to read.

THE “WOW I READ A LOT OF BOOKS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND WHY SHOULD I READ ANOTHER?” SLUMP

Now this usually happens when you’re on a roll and are enjoying all you’re books and read 4 in one week and then have NO IDEA why you should read for another 2 weeks (because of all the ones you just finished). Then of course those 2 weeks go by and you still don’t want to read.

THE “THIS BOOK IS BORING” SLUMP

So you’re reading a book and find it really boring and you don’t want to read it anymore, so you put it down, then feel guilty for not reading and dnf’ing this book which lands to you not reading at all. Again, it’s nobody’s fault because we all like different things but that guilt is kind of unnecessary and why do we have to go through this pain? It’s becaseu we’re such nice people, right?!

THE “MY TBR IS OVERWHELMING” SLUMP

All our TBRs are probably HUGE and we all feel like we’re not reading fast enough, yet the pile is swallowing us whole and you’re so overwhelmed that you just don’t read at all. The solution to that is just to forget about your huge pile and read them when you’re in the mood and hopefully it will decrease in time.

MESSAGE FROM FUTURE RUBY:

Hey, I never said it would decrease, I said hopefully so don’t come crying to me when it never does

THE “I DON’T KNOW WHAT BOOK I WANT TO READ” SLUMP

So you know when you one day have no idea what kind of book you want to read and then start like 5000 books from each and every genre and still don’t know what you want. Well yeah that is what happens when you’re a mood reader (like myself) and maybe a little burnt out and now have NO idea what to read and are stuck in a large black hole #pleasehelp
Let'sChat-1

So tell me, have you ever suffered from these and survived? Are there any on this list that I forgot about? Are you in a slump? If so, from what are you struggling? Can I help in any way (probably not but I can try)? Or are you a superhuman and have never suffered from a slump (again probably not)?
