HALLOWEEN PLANS // spooky and scary stories i plan to consume
I’m not usually a fan of scary stuff. We don’t really do Halloween in South Africa, even though I’d love to dress up and get free chocolate a girl can dream. But I have really been in the mood for spooky stories and there a few I think I’d enjoy, so here we are today. They’re mainly books but I did include a show, so let’s just get into it!
City of Ghosts by V.E. Schwab
I don’t know why I haven’t read this book yet. I have the audiobook downloaded and it’s super short. I started it but haven’t gotten round to finishing it. It seems like the perfect Halloween book so I need to get on this!
Mara Dyer trilogy by Michelle Hodkin
At first, I thought I wouldn’t be interested in these books but recently, I’ve been really wanting to read them. The whole unreliable main character intrigues me and I have a feeling I’ll love Noah Shaw. I have no idea what to expect and I know I’ll be freaked out but I need to read it anyway??
The Diviners by Libba Bray
I have a newfound love for historical fiction and this book sounds right up my alley. I also think I’m going to listen to it on audiobook because I’ve heard spectacular things. I think it’s a murder mystery set somewhere in America in the 20s?? I’m HERE FOR IT.
Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
I know next to nothing about this book except that it has rave reviews. I’m not a huge thriller person BUT I know there will be a time where I just have the urge to read all of them. I listened to the first few minutes of the audiobook and it was really good, so I’m not sure if how I’ll be reading it but I’m EXCITED.
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
I’ve been waiting to read this book 5ever because it sounds just up my alley. I hear it’s crime and rich private schools which I’m a sucker for. It also has rave reviews so I really badly need to get my hands on this book.
One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus
I actually have no excuse to not have read this book. It’s described as The Breakfast Club with a twist which is my one of my favourite movies ever. I was hyped when I got it in the mail over a year ago and just never read it?? I think I just need to get into that thriller/murder mystery mood and binge all of them. Sounds like a plan, please hold me to it.
My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows
I have heard nothing but AMAZING things about this book. I think it’s a Jane Eyre retelling but with ghosthunters?? I may be mistaken. But I hear it’s SO FUNNY. It seems like something I’d LOVE to read – I’m excited.
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
A funny story, literally a few weeks ago I was talking about I didn’t think I’d never be interested in reading this book. I said it wasn’t for me and I’d probably never read it. But I’ve been having this massive urge to read it recently. I’m planning to audiobook it sometime because I hear they’re really good. I also hear there’s a swoony love interest so of course, I need to find out for myself.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
There are of course many movies and tv shows I could watch but I’ve been DYING to watch this show. The trailer freaked me out tremendously, and I’ve only ever seen the 90s movie (which I really enjoyed) and the animated series. And guess what, I have been watching it, I’m almost done and I’m really loving it. It’s super dark and creepy but I love all the characters and finding it SO GOOD!!!
WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO READ AND WATCH THIS HALLOWEEN? ARE YOU DRESSING UP? IF YOU ARE, AS WHO ARE YOU GOING? I’D LOVE TO KNOW!

One of Us is Lying is a perfect mystery. It’s not too really scary but will keep you on the edge of your seat as you try to solve the mystery.

Great books! I haven’t read most of these but PLS READ ONE OF US IS LYING. It’s actually so good but the plot twist is quite predictable, you might guess what’s going on half way through 😂💕 xx
