GOODREADS SYNOPSIS
Emika Chen barely made it out of the Warcross Championships alive. Now that she knows the truth behind Hideo’s new NeuroLink algorithm, she can no longer trust the one person she’s always looked up to, who she once thought was on her side. Determined to put a stop to Hideo’s grim plans, Emika and the Phoenix Riders band together, only to find a new threat lurking on the neon-lit streets of Tokyo. Someone’s put a bounty on Emika’s head, and her sole chance for survival lies with Zero and the Blackcoats, his ruthless crew. But Emika soon learns that Zero isn’t all that he seems–and his protection comes at a price. Caught in a web of betrayal, with the future of free will at risk, just how far will Emika go to take down the man she loves?
Umm like what?? did I?? just read?? AHHHHH!!!!. This book man.
P.S. I don’t have much to say without spoiling you since it’s a sequel whoops
I just,,, WHAT? This book was a whirlwind and I HAVE FEELINGS
- I LOVED this book
- Not as much as the first one, but still SO GOOD
- I was scared I wouldn’t because it hasn’t been getting the best reviews but I LOVED IT
- The stakes were so freaking high
- I loved ALL the characters
- I was on my toes THE ENTIRE TIME
- Like twist after twist after twist, I couldn’t keep up
- THIS DAMN BOOK MAN
- I adore the world and the plot is so good
- I LOVED IT!!!!
As I mentioned: THE STAKES OH MY GOD. Plot twists were just on every page. I was like whoah whoah whoah WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!?
I loved being back in this world. I just remembered why I loved the first one so much. I didn’t remember a lot that happened in Warcross so some things I got confused with but it all eventually came back.
THE PHOENIX RIDERS ARE THE BEST!! I loved all the characters so much! I love Hammie and Roshan and Tremaine (we’ll get to that later) and Asher. They’re all so freaking awesome and I love how they were such good friends to Emika.
I feel like Emika lacked that badass-ness she had in the last book? I mean she was still a badass but she was definitely more reserved? But then I also get why? I dunno
Also, I know ya’ll hate Hideo. I don’t. I mean his algorithm was totally wrong but he’s a smol bean with issues and needs help. I low-key high-key shipped them throughout the entire book. I mean I want a super rich and intelligent guy hopelessly in love with me!
The whole Zero thing blew my mind. I definitely wasn’t expecting any of it to happen. Marie Lu is a complete genius and also scary that she even came up with the idea of making a digital human in the first place. It really makes you think how damaging technology can be and also how humans are (but we already knew that). On the other hand, I really want one of those NeuroLinks, please? Ya know, without the algorithm.
I ADORE ROSHAN AND TREMAINE. They were the freaking cutest and I adored them. JUST!!!!!
I loved how Marie Lu ended the book. It was perfect. The last chapter or so felt like a blur? Everything just went away all at once and I’m like sitting here with my mind doing cartwheels.
I now also really want to read the Legend trilogy! Like I want it NOW!!
Okay, I think that’s all I have to say?? I read this book a week ago and still haven’t gathered my thoughts so I apologise for this slightly messy review.
HAVE YOU READ THIS BOOK? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? HAVE YOU EVER READ ANY OF MARIE LU’S OTHER BOOKS? I’D LOVE TO KNOW!
