JANUARY RECAP // school, overwhelming stress but back on the reading game
HOW THE FRICK IS JANUARY ALREADY OVER? WHAT EVEN!
I’m trying to be on time with my recaps right now if you didn’t notice.
We’ll see how long it lasts….
January was a pretty decent month. I mean, it wasn’t terrible. We had our ups and downs but you know we came out stronger (i hope)
Look how many books I read!! I AM PROUD!!
- Carry On by Rainbow Rowell {★★★★★}: MY HEART IS STILL NOT OVER THIS BOOK. It was my first read of the year and was of course B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T! Rainbow Rowell is a genius and my gay-loving heart is totally LIVING. I needed Wayward Son yesterday please and thank you. SIMON AND FREAKING BAZ OH MY GOD!!! I just,,, read my review and you’ll understand ~ click here
- Archenemies by Marissa Meyer {★★★★½}: I’m obsessed with superpowers and by default this book. Because it was also spectacular. It didn’t take me a million years to read it, but like a week which says something. I love the world and the plot. And the ROMANCE! So deliciously good and if you’re into anything I just mentioned, READ THESE BOOKS! I have a whole review and also a list of superhero movie recs if you interested ~ click here
- The Trouble With Flirting by Rachel Morgan {★★★☆☆}: What a fun little book. I was lonely one afternoon so I decided to devour it. If you didn’t know, I read the first book in the series a few months ago and really enjoyed it. They’re set in South Africa which is fun. I didn’t like it as much because I found the main character extremely annoying and the plot wasn’t as good. But it was still fun and they’re great quick reads. Click here for my GR review
- A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab {★★★★★}: MY HEART IS BROKEN. BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK. BECAUSE WOW IT WAS SPECTACULAR. I loved it if you didn’t pick that up on your own. The writing and world is amazing. RHY AND ALUCARD OH MY GOD. LILA AND KELL!! I just,, have no words (!!). Why did nobody tell me that it was this good?!?! Click here for my pteradactyl screeching review.
- Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan {★★★½☆}: I am conflicteddd!! This book was our Topping The TBR book of the month, which is an online book club I co-host by the way. And it’s an Asian inspired high fantasy. Strong trigger warning for sexual assault though, so just be aware of that. Maybe it was because of ACOL that it didn’t live up, but I expected to be way more connected to the story than I was. I enejoyed the world and I liked the characters. But at the same time found it underdeveloped?? I don’t know. I wasn’t a huge fan of the romance (it is a f/f one which is so rare in YA but so important) which is unusual for me. I also found myself not paying full attention to the writing. But I did enjoy it and am interested in the sequel. Click here for my GR review.
February is short okay so imma try be realistic and too ambitious…
- Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
- Seige and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- Heartstopper Vol 1 by Alice Oseman
- Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston
- The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
- I said this in my January recap, and it kind of happened. But I’ve been off my blogging game lately. And I apologise. I’ve been busy with school and have had no creative ideas
- But I promise, I have like 3 new ones that I need to write and schedule, so they’re coming
- I finally got to 800 followers on Instagram #igrowsoslow *happy dance*
- I decided to take the big step and only write entire blog book reviews when I feel like I have enough to say. Because lately, I’ve been feeling… less enthusiastic about them?? So I’m going to try and put as much as possible into goodreads reviews when I don’t have a whole blog review. Reviewing EVERY book I read gets tiring so I think this will be good and the reviews I do wayyy better.
- Okay nothing exciting actually happens in my life because I’m a boring potato
- Whoah SCHOOL! Can someone please feed me cookies. Because I’m going to need em this year. I had one week which was so busy I didn’t know what to do. For those new, this is my last year of high school which is kind of… important. So yeah, um, I’m completely fine and not dying inside
- My anxiety has been a lot worse recently. I feel like I’m noticing it more than I was. If that makes sense idk??
- On the bright side, there’s a new girl at my school who reads… the same books… as me… which is SO COOL. Because my town is teeny and such people are hard to come by.
HOW WAS YOUR JANUARY? DID YOU READ ANY GOOD BOOKS? WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE? I’D LOVE TO KNOW!

Yay for Grisha trilogy! I don’t think the last year of high school went by so fast for me, so I’m hoping it does the same for you. Hope February’s a good one for you!
