OMG THIS SONG! BOOK TAG // aka combining two of my favourite things

Okay, I think I’m back. Don’t quote me on that but I’ve had a giant urge to spit out words so I might be back on my game.

I do want to apologise for this odd disappearance, but I’m trying to get back on my game.
So, if you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I really love my music. I frequently update my favourite songs on my playlist on my stories. I wanted to talk about that so found this tag which was created by Katie so here we are today.
Should we just get into this? I think we shall.

1. MY JAM ~ a song you MUST listen to every time it comes on, no matter how old or how many times you’ve listened to it / a book you’ll never get sick of.

I’ve been super into 2000s pop/rock so recently I’ve been obsessed with Take Your Mama by the Scissor Sisters. I cannot stop myself from wanting to dance around the room. It’s such a gem and I forgot how much I loved this song.

As for a book, this won’t come as a surprise to anybody at all… eyyy, of course, it’s Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. Well, Shadowhunter books in general. But I had to choose this one because even though I adore Clockwork Princess, well my heart is still in pieces and it does make me a feel a bit ill so does not fit this role.

2. THROWBACK ~ a song that reminds you of the cringest time of your life – a book that also reminds you of this time (or just something you wouldn’t like as much if you picked it up for the first time now)

Oh my, this is a hard question. I mean I used to be this generic teen who listened to only what was on the radio. My music taste has changed and grown a lot since then. So maybe something like One Direction. There’s not really a specific song that I can remember because to be honest I’ve kind of blocked them out. I only got into them just before and then right after I went to a concert, I never was truly into their music.
And obviously, I truly do not know why I was into Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Of course, I know I’d hate that book now and I recognise all its faults. I really do not understand why I liked them so much. Ahh, foetus Ruby.

3. REPLAY ~ a recent song you have on repeat right now – a recent favourite book

Okay, I won’t give you another 2000s rock song even though that’s my current obsession. Just before that though I got super into one of Lana Del Rey‘s songs called Mariner’s Apartment Complex which is so brilliant and underrated. The song is so beautiful and I have no idea why nobody knows about it. Highly recommend.

Ooohh I just finished The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews (aka Paper Fury) and gahhh it’s so amazing! I adored this book so much. The characters and writing are brilliant. I was on the verge of tears which you guys know is rare. Just do yourself a favour and READ IT!

4. GETS ME ~ this song IS ME – this book is me in book form

I haven’t found one that literally is me BUT there are a few songs that have resonated with me a lot. The first being Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls which I sat listening to one night when I was feeling really down and it really stuck with me. The other is Somewhere Only We Know from Keane which is amazing and you probably know it because it’s iconic.

As for the book, well it has to be Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. Gosh, that book is brilliant and if you haven’t read it yet, well why are you even here. No, I’m just kidding. But it seriously was like she pulled my thoughts out of my head and put on the page. I was like WHOAH. It’s been a while since I’ve read it so I really need to reread it.

5. WUT ~ weird but I like it? – a unique book that stuck out to you for whatever reason

Oh my gosh, I lived for ‘weird but I like it’ haha. Okay so there’s this song called Pink Lemonade by James Bay and like all the lyrics are odd but the song is really good.

Hmm, the book is a bit harder though. The only one that comes to mind is Save The Date by Morgan Matson. It’s not a weird book of sorts, I just really enjoyed it. It’s about a family where one of the siblings is getting married and everything that can go wrong at a wedding, goes wrong and it’s just so much fun.

6. LET’S GO ~ best pump up song (for workouts or just life) – a book that inspired you

Oooh so if you know me, then you know 80s music SO I was OBSESSED with this song by The Psychedelic Furs called Love My Way. Like I’d dance around to it on my room 10 times over. It’s such a great dance song ahhh!

As for a book, I guess A Conjuring of Light by Victoria Schwab. Idk why that pops into my head. I think it was just because I was astounded at how amazing her writing style was and I adored the characters so much.

7. CHILL ~ fave chill, relaxing song – a book you’d curl up with and read on a rainy day

One of the most lovely songs I’ve listened to is Futile Devices by Sufjan Stevens. I dunno if it’s chill or relaxing but its a really beautiful song and I adore it. It’s also just over 2 minutes long which is a crime for such an amazing song if you ask me.

I’ve been wanting to reread The Raven Boys for a while and since Maggie Stiefvater has a new book coming out I know that I must very soon. And they just seem like the perfect books for a rainy day. I have no idea how I came up with that but now it seems I have to wait for a rainy day to read them again.

8. ADDICTING ~ guilty pleasure song/one that’s catchy and addicting but not a whole lot of substance – guilty pleasure/trashy/fast/light read

Hmm, this is similar to that other question. I don’t know really.  I haven’t been listening to them that much but The Jonas Brothers just made a comeback so maybe their songs. They are really catchy. I was never that big of a fan of them, I preferred other Disney shows when I was a wee child but nonetheless I have been liking they’re new songs Sucker and also Cool.

Okay so there is this author, Rachel Morgan, who’s South African, and I tend to whizz through her books from the Trouble Series which I’ve been slowly making my way through. They’re super easy and fun and especially cheesy, so I guess those suit the profile.

9. NOSTALGIA ~ throwback you look back on fondly – a book you read forever ago that you look back on fondly or reminds you of a happy childhood time

So you, of course, know my name is Ruby right. Well, my dad and I used to love listening to the song Ruby from The Kaiser Chiefs. Yeah, I know. I still like listening to it now, I also really love Ruby Tuesday from The Rolling Stones. I know I’m extremely original.

As for the book, I guess The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. Gosh, I loved those. They’re the books that got me into reading and I loved them with all my heart. I even discovered the TV series on youtube which I started watching a bit and remembered how much I loved them. Ahh, foetus Ruby yet again.

Well, those are all the questions. I hope you gained something from this. That you got some music recommendations because I have great taste. I know I’m quite a funny person. As I mentioned earlier, I think I’m back on the posting game, we’ll see how it goes, I’ve been so swamped recently.
