Monthly Recaps

SEPTEMBER RECAP // a consistent blogging schedule, tons of reading and braces

Yes hi, this is me trying not to have these posts up so late but very badly failing. Oh well.

Anyways, September was A TIME! And there’s a lot to talk about so let’s just get into what happened last month.

Also, I did try to get this up on time but it wasn’t working with my upload schedule (which we shall get into later).  Oh well

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston {★★★★★}: welcome to the few minutes of me also giving this book all the praise because I’m super basic. We loved this book! My heart is in a puddle. It was stunning, amazing, beautiful and every other adjective you can give it. I also did a REVIEW WHAT?!? A whole ass blog post review?? I’m particularly proud of it too. It’s basically just me squawking like a bird about this book for an absurd amount of time. Check it out here <3

Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker & Wendy Xu {★★★★☆}: I read an e-ARC of this graphic novel just recently and wow what a fun book! By the time you’re reading this it should be coming out in a few days and yes you definitely should go and read it. It’s so cute and packed with diversity. I just uploaded a sort of round-up post of a whole bunch of graphic novels I read this year so if you’d like to hear more of my thoughts you can click here to head to that. Thanks to Netgalley!

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell {★★★★☆}: Yes we are very sad that this book could not be five stars but let’s not dwell too much. I got to read this book early (I know HUGE thanks to the publisher you’re the best ily) and read it in a under 24 hours. It was an emotional ride. I’m obsessed with all the characters. It’s just… the ENDING! Omg, I really didn’t like it. And I was all alone and didn’t know there was going to be that third book.  Imma send you over to me long Goodreads review because I talked about it a ton over there but ah! EMOTIONS! Huge thanks to Pan Macmillan SA for sending it to me!

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks {★★★★★}: this book is truly one of the most adorable things you’ll ever experience FIGHT ME. It’s just a perfect autumn read and completely melted me. The artwork and the colours YES! The romance was adorable. It’s diverse: we’ve got a black, plus-size and I think bisexual main character *insert all the heart eyes* I just,,, loved it so much and it may be my favourite graphic novel ever (as of now of course). It’s also mentioned more in that graphic novel post so click here for that! Another big thanks to Pan Macmillan SA for sending this my way.

Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco {★★★★☆}: omg I read a spooky book on time?? What?? I know. This book is just golden. It’s not the best book I’ve ever read by any means but I just had the best time. I’m lowkey obsessed with historical fiction but I don’t read enough of it. The Victorian era is my absolute fave. But back to this book, the writing is nothing special nor is the actual mystery. But the characters and the romance is what makes it so fun. That’s the only word one can use to describe these books: FUN! My one complaint was that the feminism was not handled well, it’s way too in your face and just doesn’t flow well with the story. I talked about it more in my GR review so click here to read that!

On the topic of Wayward Son, I spoke to RAINBOW ROWELL ON TWITTER DM??? Omg!! I just tweeted about the book and asked if I could ask her a question via dm and SHE SAID YES. So I had a conversation with Rainbow Rowell!!!! I am shaking from my grave rn.

I also am using a new blog theme. That I actually like eyyy. Plus new fonts and a cohesive blog header aesthetic. Which I think looks nice?!?! Idk what do you think?

Another thing I wanted to mention was that I’m actually sticking to an upload schedule. It’s all over the place, it was first every 5 days but now I’m trying to do every Sunday. But be aware that because exam finals are coming up I’m just going to use posts that I have ready and post them every second week because I ain’t got time to create any more posts. But I’ll back to posting wayyy more when finals are over.

I’ve also mentioned it everywhere, two entire posts dedicated in fact, to the Bargain Books Warehouse Sale so just go back a couple of posts to hear more. I was invited to the pre-sale event and it was the best!!!

If you didn’t see it over on Twitter or Instagram, well I posted a new post over on Jacques’ blog: the END OF THE YEAR BOOK TAG and I quite like it so if you’d like to show one of my favourite people some love or are just interested in that post you can click right HERE!

Hi this is Ruby from the future saying she forgot about the other guest post she did over on one of her closest friend’s – Amy – blog (I know I’m the worst whoops) but you should definitely go check it out. I talked about all of my favourite movies of this year so far so click here for that. KILL ME NOW!!!!

Apart from my RED WHITE & ROYAL BLUE review which you should go read because I’m SUPER PROUD of, here are my other faves!

I start finals on the 23rd of October, which yay, super happy about that. Did you hear my sarcasm?? So got tons of revision to get done. Always fun. I will still be posting though, they won’t be fresh, just ones I wrote like 3 weeks ago and as mentioned I don’t have enough for once a week, unfortunately. But I’ve been all over the place on here any way you probably don’t mind.

Plus as I mentioned in the title, my braces finally came off. I’ve had them for 5 years. For those who don’t know (idk if I’ve ever said it) but I was born with a cleft lip and palate which basically means when I was a mere developing foetus the two halves of my body didn’t come together properly and I was born with a hole in the roof of my mouth. Resulting in my teeth being all over the place. So I’ve had lots of surgery done and it’s been a process to get my teeth to where they are now. Anyways, I just thought it was worth mentioning, maybe somebody was slightly interested haha.

HOW WAS YOUR SEPTEMBER? WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE READ? WHAT ELSE DID YOU GET UP TO? I’D LOVE TO KNOW?

xo
