Synopsis:
Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?
Meanwhile, Kady’s cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza’s ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha’s past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.
With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.

This book was its own form of torture and I am currently deceased. Still, like 7 months later!!! Welp!!!
I honestly did not survive that book. MY ANXIETY DID NOT SURVIVE. This bish almost had a literal PANIC ATTACK at this one part. If you know YOU KNOW!!
How do you even talk about this book without spoiling literally everything?!
Okay, so this book feels most out of place of the three of them, which is probably why a lot of people don’t like it. It’s really just because the ‘format’ of this one is different from books 1 and 2, in the sense that we follow all the characters we’ve previously met AND another set of characters.
me @ the first page: shOoKeTh to the core.
Literally though, LIKE WHAT AN OPENING?!?!
But then we jump into some other random character chats and I’m like HOLD UP STOP DOING THIS TO ME. I just want more interactions with my other faves. Relieved that we did but STILL. I eventually got the hang of it still lowkey wanted Rhys & Asha’s parts to be over
Oh and THE ACTION SCENES!! SO GOOD!! They’re always good and make my brain explode. I don’t understand half of what’s happening but we still appreciate the epic-ness!!
- Kataya: she’s a little girl that Asha looks after in the hospitable and just the sweetest thing ever *smushes with hugs*
- Rhys Lindstrom: hmm this guy, he’s obviously not my favourite of the guys. He’s fine?? Not much too him, unfortunately.
- Asha Grant: I really loved Kady’s cousin, but I did find her a bit whiny at times?? I still liked her character and how she was so protective of Kataya but yeah I wasn’t as connected to these characters as the rest.
- Aidan: welp we still have mixed feelings gahhh
- Winifred McCall: I loved the captain so much (she was the captain right, she was something okay) and I loved her swearing soo much!! Great, we loved her!!
- Ella Malikov: this girl still slays and I ADORE HER!! GIVE ME MORE BANTER WITH NIK AND KADY!! LOOOOVEEEE HER!!!
- Hanna Donelly: I feel like she wasn’t in the book A LOT like she was still a large presence, especially towards the end but not at the beginning. But this girl still is awesome and trying to deal with all this trauma. She’s so strong and an I-C-O-N!
- Nik Malikov: we!! love!! him!! CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! Nik is still the sass pants we love and I connected to him so much in this book. The feisty smol gangster whom we all love.
- Ezra Mason: still my fave, I adore this man SO!! MUCH!! Ya’ll can obsess over Nik (i also do) but Ezra is just my favourite. He’s just the best and I’m… trash
- Kady Grant: this girl continues to save the day and WOW SHE’S JUST THE MOST AMAZING BADASS!! DESERVES MORE CREDIT TBH!! I wish I could be as cool as Kady freaking Grant. I’m also her #1 stan behind Ezra ha!!
*searches brain to try and remember specific plot points to talk about*
We also just need to point out how many Isaac Grant would say LANGUAGE I WAS DYING!! So funny omgggg!!!
Also need to obsess over Ezra’s nickname by none other than Nik: BABYFACE. Like WOW, ICONIC. Speaking of these two I DIED when I found out they were forming a lil team. LIKE HECK YES!! Everything I ever wanted and more. My life is complete. The best cinnamon rolls working together?!?! Still not over this. Okay, fangirling over. Not really
And the Kady-Hanna-Ella trio also GAVE ME LIFE. I can’t get over how brilliant they are. My life was truly made.
There’s A LOT of surveillance footage in this book. And then also chats Asha had with the other rebels (?) was interesting but as I said I did just want to skip to other parts. Not that it was bad, I was just more interested in the characters we’d already met.
I love the footage when I knew Nik was narrating because YES!!! He was the actual best!! I loved SPIDER-MONKEY!!
CHUMMMM THIS F**KING BOOK!!!
I had a miniature heart attack when Kataya was shot DUDE STOP!
And Nik and Hanna’s discussion in the Betty was so sad and I just really love these lovesick idiots.
KADY AND EZRA’S GOODBYE SCENE AHHHH!!!
I’ve mentioned this but when Nik and Ezra’s shuttle explodes I LOST MY DAMN MIND OH HECK!! I still have not survived that haunting experience. Like here’s the thing, I KNEW Nik’s parachute would be of some help BUT I was like no, would they really bring them back to life again??!! And then also the two of them were not in the beginning sequence and I AM DECEASED. Thank GOD they survived. I sure didn’t.
Yeah, this discussion is NOT over. Like howwww??? Whyyyyy??? My grave was dug that day.
And that whole showdown with Kady and Hanna and McCall!!! Hanna literally also “died” too right?!?!? KILL ME, MURDER ME!! And when the two found out about Ezra and Nik LITERALLY I DIED. How many times did this book kill me? 615 times is how many!!
Oh and THE ACTION SCENES!! SO GOOD!! They’re always good and make my brain explode. I don’t understand half of what’s happening but we still appreciate the epic-ness!!
And then… the ending. This bish was still having a panic attack. Losing her mind. Internally screaming. #funtimes
The end scene at the diner though? P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N!! I just love them all so much. I love the group banter. And just ALL OF IT!!! Somebody murder me. Wait the book already did. Welp so much for that.
My life is still over. What else can you even say?
Watch me go reread like a million times.
“Live a life worth dying for.” – Kady Grant
♦
“It is entirely possible to be alone in a crowded room. Your solitude only compounded by the faces around you. The presence of others serving only to remind you of how lonely you truly are.”
♦
“Good luck, everyone.
Good luck to us all.
And may we meet again on distant shores.
Some place fine and far from here.”
♦
“They look at one another again. And this time, they smile. These seven little pebbles who started an avalanche heard all the way around the universe.”
♦
“Nik, are you still wearing that ****ing parachute?”
“Maybe…”
“You know you’re going to be flying in space, right…?”
♦
“Kady Grant,” supplies Grant Jr. “Child prodigy and occasional criminal.”
♦
“A billion light-years from here, back when nothing and no one else mattered to them. When they were each other’s everything. And he pulls her close and her mouth finds his, her fingers running through his hair as she kisses him like he’s the only thing she can remember in all the universe. As if they’re kissing for the very first and very last time.”
“Oh Captain, my Captain
Am I not merciful?” – Aidan
ACTUAL RATING: EVERY STAR EVER
Here’s the end of this review. Just like this series ended me. And how the book ended. Just like that.
Also, I do really need to read Aurora Rising sometime. I’ve heard mixed reviews BUT like a ragtag group of space misfits? Sign me up!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this lil series of reviews. Let’s hope I don’t take this long again. Emphasis on the word hope.
Huh.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE SERIES? HAVE YOUR READ THIS ONE? WHAT DID YOU THINK? DID YOU LOVE THEM TOO? LET ME KNOW!

your review brought back so many feelings. this book did kill me so many times too! it was a true page turner, as every book in this trilogy truly, but the one with the most breath-taking pacing imo was actually gemina. i was enjoying my time with obsidio and even though so much happened at the end, i felt like i could actually savor this one.
asha and rhys weren’t my favorites and i definitely prefer ezra and kady too (ezra/nik’s friendship was everything i never knew i needed), but i liked seeing how things were in kerenza and i feel like their storyline allowed us to see the two perspectives in this war and realize there’s so much grey area between the good guys and the bad guys.
even though i feel like this book reused some of the tropes they’d explored before, especially aidan as a villain/hero and the exes-to-lovers dynamic, i still had a great time with it because the characters and the format are so fun. there’s no boring time with this – even if there was no crazy action sequence going on, i was still laughing with their banter and dialogue.
i am also super hyped for aurora rising, despise the mixed reviews. i have a lot of faith in this duo of writers!

dude wow okay let’s just take a minute to appreciate all the effort you put into this comment *round of applause*
Yes, omg SO MANY THINGS were happening one after the other in Gemina, and even though in this one too, it had a different essence to it.
EZRA AND NIK OMG MADE MY ENTIRE LIFE I WAS SQUEALING!!!
And yes totally agree with that I liked finding out what was happening on Kerenza, even though I didn’t care too much about Asha & Rhys.
JUST YES TO EVERYTHING YOU’RE SAYING!! It is a little similar to book one but it’s gives a full circle kinda feeling which I liked. And the dialogue and the intrigue is what keeps you reading. The action is only at the end BUT SO WORTH IT!!
