BOOKS I WANT TO REREAD ASAP // ft. old favourites, wondering if opinions would change and series continuations

Hey hey hey people. This post has been sitting in drafts for aeons and it’s kind of ashaming. But that’s life for ya.

I have to resist the urge to reread like ALL the books because otherwise, my TBR pile will murder me. And I’m still a youngin’ with a long life ahead of me so I think I should spend my time maybe not dying? Even though I kinda am already because the other books I read murder me anyway. You just can’t win tbh.

Anyways, Idk if this post is dumb but I had a list of books in my mind that I wanted to reread and I thought why not do a whole blog post about them?? This post might be a failure, feel free to click out now.

But um yeah let’s just get into this post??

PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS BY RICK RIORDAN

This series was one of the first series I ever got into. I think I read them like 5 years ago? I even low-key really enjoyed the movies at first, until I read the books, and was like YEAH NOPE. But my siblings have been reading them and I just feel left out? Haha serious FOMO.

I want to come back and laugh at like every page. I still have all of Rick’s new books to read because I’m trash and never read books on time. These books were just so hilarious when I first read them and I love Greek mythology. I adore Percy and Annabeth, a forever OTP. I just… want to feel like a 12-year-old again #wisechoices

TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN BY JOHN GREEN

Back in 2017, when this book was receiving SO MUCH buzz, I was like nah “I don’t like John Green, all his characters just die by the end of the book and I don’t get it.” But I received an unsolicited copy from the publisher, and since EVERYBODY was reading and loving this book I HAD to find out why. Obviously you know I’ve read this already since I want to reread (DUH LOGIC). And it was so good!!

I just know I’ll appreciate on a whole other level now, especially the anxiety rep. I also just really love the Green brothers. I had to read The Fault In Our Stars last year for school (was a reread too hehe) and also do an oral about him. I did so much research and I’m low-key obsessed with them. They’re just so cool. We’re going to have a great time folks.

SHADES OF MAGIC BY V.E. SCHWAB

Yes, I did in fact just read book three at the beginning of the year. DON’T JUDGE ME. Let me explain: the reason I want to get back to this series is that I feel like I’ll love the first two books a whole lot more. I took me so long to get through book one, not because it was bad, just because I was never in the mood. And when I finally got to the second one, I put it down for like two weeks (only because an anticipated release had just come out which I HAD to read). Basically it just took me way too long to read them and I feel that maybe that hindered my enjoyment just a bit??

So yes, I feel like I’ll love the first two WAY more than I did the first time because the finale BLEW MY MIND. It’s one of my favourite reads of the year and such a fantastic fantasy novel.

HARRY POTTER

This is so basic I’M SORRY. I love Harry Potter, not going to lie to you. Who doesn’t? But I’ve been disconnected from the series, it’s been WAY too long since I first read them.

I’m also a terrible person, when I was reading for the first time I think I read them all out of order?? I’d seen the movies so I just started where I felt like it. I know big WHOOPS. So I’d like to actually read them all in order HA. Plus I don’t remember all the minute details from the books, I’ve lost my HP trivia touch people. I think I’m going to reread via audiobook, I have a soft spot for Stephen Fry’s audiobooks. I don’t know when I’ll actually read them though. Story of my life.

SHATTER ME BY TAHEREH MAFI

At this point in time, I am super conflicted about this series. I only just read the original trilogy last year and I LOVED them. But I’m don’t love new books, and I don’t know if it’s me or actually the books. My taste has improved a lot since last year, and I’ve become a bit more critical you know?

I‘m really intrigued to see if I’d like the original series as much as I remember. I loved book two and I still think that will remain my favourite, but the third was also really good. I don’t know, I just want to see what I ‘d think and if my feelings would change? GAHHHH

THE HUNGER GAMES BY SUZANNE COLLINS

I feel like I’m not the only one who wants to reread this series, it’s been everywhere lately. Omg, I have been craving it so bad. I recently rewatched all the films with some friends and with the new book announced, I’ve just been in the BIGGEST HUNGER GAMES MOOD.

I love this series with my whole heart. I think Suzanne is such an amazing writer. I’ve watched the movies countless times because I adore them. I love Katniss and Peeta. It’s all just so well crafted and gahh!! I don’t care unread books I MUST READ THESE AGAIN! I CAN’T WAIT!! Going to have a GRAND time.

AND AHH THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES IS HAPPENING (ignore the ugly title and cover). I am SO READY FOR THG TO COME BACK NEXT YEAR *insert keyboard smash*

ELIZA & HER MONSTERS BT FRANCESCA ZAPPIA

This book! I always stay it’s my favourite standalone of all time, it was one of the first books that made me feel immediately seen and recognised. It spoke to me on so many levels and I just connected to it a whole lot. WOW!! IT’S JUST SO GOOD!! And I can’t believe I’ve only read it once? And I claim it’s my favourite book?? Don’t worry, I’m side-eyeing myself over here. I’m a SHAME!! Anyways, I’ll probably reread via audiobook because I’ve heard good things.

SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE BY MORGAN MATSON

I only read this book last year but it quickly became one of my all-time favourite books. I was going through a rough time and I read this book and felt as if the main character and I were going through almost the exact same thing (except I have no romance in my life obviously). It’ll always have a special place in my heart for that reason BUT I do know that it has flaws. I’m just curious to see if I’d still love it, I probably will because of the sentimental value BUT STILL. You get the point. Let’s move on.

SIX OF CROWS BY LEIGH BARDUGO

Don’t we all just want to constantly read this duology over and over? I have zero doubts that I’ll love it as much as I did, probably even more.

I actually do have the audiobook of book one which I know is highly loved, it’s just super long and intimidating. I’ve just forgotten so much about the story (again I only read this like last year, my memory is terrible I know).

I just miss these characters and I, OF COURSE, have to read all of the Grisha books before the NETFLIX SHOW. OMG wait let’s take a second to talk about HOW AMAZING THE CAST ARE!!!! I actually CANNOT. I follow them all on Instagram and they’re the actual greatest?? I adore them so so so so much!!! I’M DYING!!

Just going to drag myself here because I also haven’t read the Grisha trilogy yet. I KNOW *shame* I also need to read these before the show. I’m behind on all Leigh’s book okay. It’s a sin tbh. I STILL WANT TO READ KING OF SCARS TOO!! GAHH!! I’m BAD!!

THE RAVEN CYCLE BY MAGGIE STIEFVATER

This dang series!! I actually did start rereading it, like as a side-book (is that a thing?? I just made it one), but I quickly figured out that that was a bad idea. The Raven Boys needs your full and undevoted attention so I put it down to pick up later. Later should be hopefully soon so that I can get to Call Down The Hawk. Which I’m SO pumped to get to OMG *pterodactyl screech*

Anyways, the like 70 pages I did reread WERE ACTUAL GOLD. I forgot how much I loved these books. And I’m so excited to go back and see if any of my opinions change. I doubt they will, I think I’ll probably just notice details I hadn’t before. And that it’ll be A GREAT TIME. I AM READY!! Watch me shove these books back in everybody’s faces all over again!!

I don’t know when I’ll actually get to reread any of these books. Some of them sooner than later because of those continuations coming out. As for the others, I apologise, dear friends, you’ll have to wait.

Also again, I hope this post wasn’t a mess and that you somewhat enjoyed it hehe.

Until next time.

I *love* rereading – it’s so special to go back to books, worlds and characters I’ve loved so much!! The Raven Cycle is definitely on my “to re-read” list, I used to adore those books, and they are actually quite unlike anything I’ve read up to that point or since then. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed those first 70 pages. 🙂 The Hunger Games, YES – I read it ages ago, and I’m quite sure I’d love them still, because whenever the movies are on tv, I watch them/have them on in the background. I love the world and the characters and basically EVERYTHING about the series. And yes, despite the god-awful cover and title (seriously, WHY) I’m looking forward to the new book as well. 🙂 Great post!!

omg, this post is ME. there are so many books that I want to reread, but I never do because I always get distracted by unread books. Also, I don’t like rereading books if I already know what happens?? Because that’s boring?? I’m the only person in the world who thinks that though lmao.
I really need to reread Harry Potter as well. yes, jk rowling is trash, but she wrote one of the most magical book series out there, and it’s been a goal of mine to reread HP for YEARS. I know that I read and loved all of them as a child, but to this day, I can’t remember ANYTHING about the books. I swear, someone must’ve spelled me to forget my entire reading experience. I’ve already reread Sorcerer’s Stone, and nobody can convince me that these books aren’t the perfect reread material!
Ahhhh, SoC is perfect reread material too! Rereading almost never works for me, especially rereading books that I remember a decent amount from, but when I reread SoC, I truly felt like my reading experience was even better, and I was able to pick up on so many new things. Also, I’ve reread SoC, but I haven’t reread CK, and I should REALLY do that. lmao, I also haven’t read the Grisha trilogy and I’ve been on the fence about whether I should read it or not for a while. I already know all the major plot points that happen, but I also want to read it for the adaptation?? LIke, I read KoS without having read it (#rebel), but I feel like that was a mistake and reading the Grisha trilogy before picking it up would’ve enhanced my reading experience SO much more.
I hope you get to reread these books and enjoy your experiences with them!!!!

I feel exactly the same!! Thats why like when I LOVE a book I don’t reread it per se, just my favourite scenes because I remember everything else 😂

I know I loved HP, and same as you remember NOTHING. But I’ve been wanting to get to them for ages. We just… don’t like Rowling especially with what happened yesterday. BIG YIKES!!

I just know that I’ll appreciate SoC so much more a second time, as I’m already familiar with the world and magic system *insert heart eyes* IT MUST HAPPEN SOOONNNB BC TV SHOW AHHHH!!! Omg you read before KoS,, YOU A SERIOUS REBEL! Dude maybe we should buddy read the trilogy or something? Like real lowkey? If you keen

      <3

      • Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea

RIGHT? i love rereading my favorite scenes, but i can’t imagine rereading the entire book because that’s boring!

I know. BIG YIKES is the perfect way to describe her and her transphobic views.

Hehe, i am a ~rebel~. WAIT YES THAT’S PERFECT. i don’t think i’ll ever work up the motivation to read the trilogy by myself , so having someone to read it with would literally be PERFECTION. let’s do it!!!

        • Ruby Rae Reads

I’d really just feel guilty if I completely reread it though. Plus it IS boring if you’ve just read the book and know what’s going yo happen ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the exit is over there Joanne

YES I AM READY FOR THIS BUDDY READ!!! I once tried to but aghhh wasn’t in the mood. but now I JUST HAVE TO!! Dm me!!!

          • Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea

yeah, i’d feel guilty as well! bc i know that i won’t like the book. but it’s not the book’s fault!! I just can’t reread books, ughhh

            OMG DYING. YES, JOANNE. LEAVE.

YASSSSSS. wait what time do you wanna start? bc i probably can’t this year :(( I have to read books by asian authors in order to catch up on YARC HAHAHA. but dm me when you’re ready! i’ll just drop everything, and start Shadow and Bone HAHA

  • Sophie @ Me and Ink

I actually didn’t think I was much of a re-reader but I actually did it this year with The Raven Cycle (yes for Call Down the Hawk) and it was such a rewarding experience. They were so many things I didn’t notice the first time and I paid more attention to the little details and ahh.. it was just perfect. I got to appreciate the books so much more!!

YES Six of Crows is so perfect– I loved the books and I would love to reread them!! I’m so excited for the show too!! I can’t wait!! The cast does look incredible and I have seen bits of them from instagram and they look like they’re such good friends which make me heart swell. I think the casting for Kaz and Inej looks perfect!!

I really want to read the A Darker Shade of Magic series as I’ve heard so many good things and I fee like I will love it!! I’m so glad you enjoyed them!!
I also need, need to read some Rick Riordan books because I’ve never picked any of them up but I love mythology and fun books so I need to read them!!
I hope you get to reread all of these and still love them (or love them even more)!! 🙂

    • Ruby Rae Reads

From the 70 pages I started I already noticed so much heheh. My BODY IS READY!!

The cast just,,, they’re the most amazing ever, they’re such great friends and IM JUST LIVING
