TOP 20 BOOKS TO READ IN 2020 & NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS // this is incredibly late but hi reading and blogging goals ft. an ambitious tbr

Okay wow, this post is a tad late. I literally forgot that I hadn’t posted this and it’s been ready for MONTHS. Sorry about that. Better late than never though right?

I’m jumping on the ’20 books to read in 2020′ bandwagon. I’m going to keep this short because I do have a sort of second instalment to this post planned with 2019 releases. Keep ya eyes peeled.

And then I also had some new year’s reading resolutions so I thought I’d just combine those two posts into one. So it might be a whole mess. Have fun?

TOP 20 BOOKS TO READ IN 2020

So instead of listing off why I want to read 20 books, which I’ve come to realise is not a practical idea and will be boring, I’m just going to name some that I HAVE TO GET TO. Like when 2021 comes around, anybody and everybody has permission to punch me in the face if I still haven’t read them. And then just a smol list of some other titles *wink wink*

the priority list!!

Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo:

Caitlin and I are going to buddy read the series this year so I CAN BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I swear I’ve had this series on my TBR since like the end of 2017 and I STILL HAVEN’T READ IT. I was going to last year in preparation for King of Scars, which didn’t happen. And now I am determined to for the tv show and just my general sanity. I give you full permission to pester me all day and every day to read this series.

The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare & other authors:

This has to happen so that I can read The Red Scrolls of Magic. And also because I hate being behind on Shadowhunter books. And I’m again determined to be all caught up by the time the second book comes out.

Vicious by V.E. Schwab

I have heard NOTHING but stellar and amazing reviews. And I love Victoria’s other adult works so I just desperately need to read this one. I want to know what everyone is talking about. Also apparently there are SUPER ABILITIES which I love. It’s going to be a great time.

A Torch Against The Night by Sabaa Tahir

This book. It just needs to be read. I can’t keep hiding from it. I literally own two copies and THEY STARE AT ME. I even tried to do it last year. AHHH!! I freaking ADORE the first book and I want to get caught up. If this doesn’t happen, I myself will jump off a cliff.

the others!!

READING GOALS

➵ Read 45 books

I’m keeping the goal fairly low, I reached 50 last year but I didn’t want to go too high because my reading year hasn’t been great. A pity but it’s whatever. But also ya know it means that if I reach that goal I can just KEEP GOING.

➵ Make more use of audiobooks

I recently joined the Libro.fm ALC list and I plan to take full advantage of audiobook listening. I have SO many downloaded to my phone and I just want to make full use of them to maximise my reading this year.

➵ Read more classics, specifically children’s classics.

I absolutely love children’s classics. I know I’ll have to read other classics this year for school but I have THE BIGGEST soft spot for children’s ones. And I read a couple of them last year and they’re just so whimsical and lovely. And I’ve been building a collection so I shall be definitely sticking to this goal. Hopefully can read at least one every two months or so.

Some of the ones on my TBR

  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (which was originally on my 2020 TBR but I’m putting it here. I HAVE to watch this new film and also just really want to read this one)
  • Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery (because I haven’t read it in its entirety for some reason?)
  • The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgeson Burnett
  • Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Caroll

➵ Read more adult and historical fiction

This sort of covers a wide range of genres but this past year I read some really good ones and have thoroughly enjoyed them. So I’d like to read more titles. For instance, I really want to try out the dark academia genre and also some non-fiction. And then also YA and adult historical fiction, which I’ve become OBSESSED with : )

BLOGGING GOALS

➵ Post once/twice a week

I’ve recently got back into the blogging game, after being hot and cold most of last year. And I posted a shit ton in December so I’d like to keep it up. I want to try and do at least one list/discussion/recommendation post and then one review a week. The review will depend on if I finish a book that week but yeah. Let’s see if I can stick to it. I mean uni kind of screwed it up but I’m slowly getting used to it.

➵ Get to 400 blog followers

I have been blogging for just under 3 years now, and I’ve been on and off since then. And only now that I’ve come back have I become PROUD of it. I’ve always grown incredibly slowly but I’d like to try and aim high and hit a MILESTONE this year. To make my blog more of my hub.

➵ Write discussion & advice posts

I have a couple of ideas already and I’ve sorta done some in the past but not really. I know that people like them and I do have some things that I’d like to say. So who knows when they’ll come but hopefully soon *fingers crossed*

➵ Reach 2k followers on Instagram

I… love this platform. I really got into it when I wasn’t active on here and I’ve grown A LOT over there. Still very slow. Which truly I don’t know why but anyway. But I’d like to continue to grow and be creative over there.

➵ Make more use of Twitter and Pinterest

Twitter is a scary platform. And tbh I can never sit on it all day nor do I plan on it. But I hardly use it and I’d like to try and grow over there so I can use it as THE PLACE where I post links to blog posts. Instead of just casually tweeting as I usually do. I’d really like to use it to it’s fullest potential.

And then Pinterest. I don’t really use it (only for fanart and mood boards whoops). But everyone keeps saying that it’s a great place to attract blog traffic. So I think I should get off my butt and figure out how it works. Actually using it though is just more WORK. Like I think it’s best to make your own graphics and everything and I’m lazy. So ahhh! Posting on two social media platforms is already tiring as it is, which is why I haven’t really used it.

➵ Post more movie content

I’ve been focusing more on catching up with bookish content. BUT STILL. I used to watch a ton so I need to get back into them. I have a couple in the works at the moment. But YES MORE MOVIES!! It’s a passion of mine and I’d like to corporate more content : )

And those are all the goals. I don’t think they’re going to be too hard to accomplish. And I think I also just need to constantly refer back to my 2020 TBR list so that I can stay on top of that and to make sure I do read them ha. Wish me luck??

WHAT ARE SOME BOOKS YOU HAVE TO GET TO THIS YEAR? WHAT DID YOU SET YOUR GOODREADS GOAL? DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER READING OR LIFE GOALS? I’D LOVE TO KNOW!

xo
