Beach Read by Emily Henry {}: so this book is possibly my favourite book of this year, apart from one other. Because WOW my heart,,, Oof this book was SO GOOD. I’ve only read one of this author’s books but I shall now go and read everything else she’s written. I just LOVED this so so so much. This is an adult romance about writers at the beach, it deals with grief and couldn’t have been more perfect. There was PHENOMENAL banter and character development. I wrote a whole blog post review for the blog tour so click here to read that. Big thanks to Penguin Random House for sending me an eARC and for having me. READ IT READ IT READ IT!! Literally want to reread it like every day and CANNOT wait to own this book physically!

The Tempest by William Shakespeare {½☆}: I read this one for class and boy oh boy was I surprised that I UNDERSTOOD what was happening. Like I could actually read the text and knew exactly what the conversation was about. I even laughed a few times ha. I must be a new person. Yeah, I actually really liked this one, I liked the plot and the themes. Truly I think someone has taken over my body or something because you’re not the only one shocked.

Again but Better by Christine Riccio {★☆☆☆}: I FINALLY read this book. I’ve had it for a year and I finally did it. And as you can tell by the rating, well, it wasn’t the best. I listened to this one on audiobook (THE ENTIRE THING I KNOW ALSO A MIRACLE). And eh. It was just really… eh. I liked the college setting and thought that the fantasy aspect was cool. But I wasn’t a fan of the writing and the characters were… problematic. Cheating is just a big NO-NO. Whether it happens in real life or not. And the characters weren’t well developed. Shane was just obsessive, which yes does also happen, but it’s like she had no other character. Also, this was a case where the pop culture references were CRINGE. I get why they were there but I was not into it. The narrator was fine, I mean I kept listening. But I rolled my eyes so many times and this just… wasn’t for me. Full GR review here.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater {}: then as you can tell, I did a thing. By thing, I mean reread the entire Raven Cycle series. And wow do I miss devouring an entire series and loving every book. Apparently, I have not changed in the last 3 years at all. Literally not even a smidge. I,,, loved this reread. As you can tell, I gave every book 5 stars. I love the pretentious writing style. I love the characters. I love the crazy premise and world. (also yes I do know that Maggie is problematic). I also love Gansey. Like a lot. Okay bye now.

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater {}: Jk. But this book DID THINGS to me. This is a lot of people’s least favourite but upon my reread, it changed the game for me. Just so much happened and the stakes were higher, I feel. So LOVED this one. Freaking Bluesey and I may have squealed like 10000 times. More or less. And Ronan. Oof he’s so FUNNY. We have the same mouth apparently. I keep it PG here but if you know me I swear quite a lot whoops. Anyways, yes, LOVED this one. So much was happening, my heart was racing. Send help.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater {}: And then I remember this book being my favourite, for obvious reasons. To be quite frank, I have no idea which is my favourite anymore. They all are. My anxiety did not survive these last two books. I freaking knew how they end I WAS STILL SCARED OMG. BLUESEY BLUESEY BLUESEY. And Pynch!!. My thoughts are all a mess okay. This book,,, okay I should leave now.  My heart didn’t survive is basically what I’m trying to say.

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater {}: I thought upon this reread I would be able to tell you whether this book really was not that great. But unfortunately, I can’t do that. Because I don’t know. STOP PRESSURING ME, DEAR GOD. I,,, anxiety was still bad. I was left lying on the floor with my heart scraped out by raven claws. I now currently reside at 300 Fox Way. I’ll most likely be found outside in an orange Camaro wearing a prestigious blue overcoat. I LOVE GANSEY. But also everyone else. Stop talking to me now. K bye.

Opal by Maggie Stiefvater {★☆}: At this point, I no longer had any tears left to cry. So to be honest with you I don’t know whether myself lowering the rating was the right decision or not. I do know that this book was so too short and that Opal is kinda a brat. She’s great but idk if I loved a whole short story from her perspective. I was mainly there for Pynch, as most are, so… there’s that.

Big thanks to Penguin Books South Africa for sending me a copy of American Royals by Katherine McGee. Super pumped to read this, it’s like an alternate reality where the US never had a president but was run by royals. It’s supposed to be full of angst and drama and I’m here for it!!

➸ Books by black authors:

Audiobooks I have to listen to:

  • All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
  • The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon
  • Me And White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad

➸ Books on my pride tbr:

  • Date Me, Bryson Keller by Kevin van Whye
  • The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune

I don’t even remember what happened in May tbh. I have to go stalk myself to remember what I did.

Apparently, according to Instagram stories, I started The 100. Which yes did happen. It kept me busy for approximately 4 days and then,,, I moved on wow. But I binged the first season. I enjoyed it but have since not found the urge to keep going. Idk if that’s a good or a bad thing. I thought the concept was cool and that it was well made. But I wasn’t about to get hooked on Bellarke and be a clown for it then not to happen. We’ll see if anything does whilst this last season is airing and decide then. Wow, I’m a genius.

Oh, I watched some Twilight. Yeah, that was… fun. All I took from that was that I love the soundtracks.

I also ~ officially ~ added The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to my top 5 favourite movies of all-time list. I… don’t know why it took me so long to realise that. Because PERFECTION!

Tons of book-related stuff happened. A new Twilight book. Not sure how I feel. PJO adaptation. FUN TIMES!!

Oh, I listened to Kehlani AND Rihanna. LOVE THESE LADIES!!

And that’s about it. I am VERY ready for the uni semester to be over. I got a bit anxious. Otherwise, May was… not great.

HOW WAS YOUR MAY? WHAT BOOKS DID YOU READ? WHICH WAS YOUR FAVOURITE? WHAT ELSE DID YOU GET UP TO? LET ME KNOW!

I’m so happy you had a good reading month!!! I’m particularly amazed with your rereads, I’ve been really trying to get around reading that series. Goodluck on your June tbr🥰

Also, thank you for sharing these links!

  • Lais @ The Bookish Skies

yay! i’m really happy you enjoyed your re-read of the raven cycle! the dream thieves is actually my most favorite in the series and i have not read the novella yet, or call down the hawk! i really need to get back to it but now fantasy has become more and more intimidating, so i’m always putting it off, hahah.
i have read only mostly devastated, darius the great and tase hearts tolstoy and i enjoyed all of them a lot! i hope you do too. only mostly devastated was SO cute and fun, i think you’ll really like it. i don’t know if you’re familiar with grease but yeah, the vibes are definitely there, hahah.
i haven’t continued on with the 100 in forever, but season one is iconic and amazing. i remember hating bellamy so much when i first started this show and then he turned into one of my favorite characters by the end of the season, hahah.
i hope you have an amazing june! wishing you luck on your TBR!

I’m SO with on fantasy ahhh!! Although, to comfort you, TRC is low on magic so its not too hard to grasp. We more there for the characters 😉

I’m so psyched to read OMD eekk!! I have watched Grease, multiple times. Not my fave anymore but I love the music and I think the retelling can be done really well. Its a very unique concept!!

You’re SPOT ON with Bellamy. I lowkey hated him for the first few eps but heard je got better and luckily really liked him by S2

Hope your june goes well too <3

I just read Beach Read a few days ago and absolutely adored it!! It was so fun, so relatable, and just everything I was looking for put into one book! It looks like your reading month was very successful :))

  • Veronika @ Wordy and Whimsical

I’m super-excited for Beach Read!! I’ve heard nothing but great things about it, and I already own it, so I’ll be hopefully getting to it soon. 🙂 I really want to reread The Raven Cycle, so I’m happy you enjoyed it this time around, as well. I’ll try to get to it later this year. I really love Only Mostly Devastated, Tash and Darius, so I do hope you’ll love those. Hope your June has been great! 🙂
