JUNE RECAP // some stunning reads and that’s about it because i’m on vacation

Making baby steps and improving by a couple months with this recap. Let’s not talk about the last time, it’s too sad.

In reality not much happened last month, though in my head it feels like a lot, which is a werid conundrum and I’m talking rubbish, so let’s just jump right in xoxo

Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee {★★★★★}: Thank the high heavens that I FINALLY READ THIS DANG BOOK!!!! Took me about a bajillion years. I have been excited about this book for the longest time and eeeep am I glad it lived up to my high expectations. I’m in my YA era and I LOVE IT. You also just need this book about internet culture and fame and film production and discussions on asexuality. Plus stunning friend groups and funny dialogue IT HAS EVERYTHING. I was just so touched by this book and agh you all need to bump up the tbr if you haven’t read yet. GR review here

Book Lovers by Emily Henry {★★★★★}: Took me far too long to pluck up the courage to read this but in my defence, I was avoiding pain. And for good reason. But don’t let that scare you, it’s not all sad, Emily Henry also just likes swinging big gut punches. Anyways, this book was absolutely everything and deserves all the stars in the galaxy and hit wayyyy too close to home and you need it in your life. I’ve rambled a ton in a full blog review that’s 10k words long. You’d think I’m joking but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the number. You’ve been warned and I’m just sending you all over there, you can cry with me later welp. Huge thanks to Penguin SA for the review copy, adore you to bits xoxoxoxo

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune {★★★★☆}: Back in my adult romance moment as I try to mend my broken heart, so decided to give this one a shot. Overall, we had a great time, devoured in about a day. The dual timeline was really well executed, and I loved the relationship between the two main characters, a stunning second chance childhood friends to lovers dynamic and they were adorable. My only critique is that I wanted more towards the end, in comparison to a really stunning first half, whereas the last 30% lowkey fell flat. GR review here!

A Thousand Miles by Bridget Morrissey {★★★★★}: Gosh this book surprised me and I loved it a whole whole lot and I just HAVE to yell. I,,,, I mean honestly didn’t think much of this one, though it was an anticipated release, I just did not think I’d be so captured by it. I loved this book from the very first page and my heart was just taken the whole way through. This is also a second chance estranged best friends to lovers romance and IT WAS STUNNING. I rarely give romances 5 stars but this one did everything I needed and didn’t know I wanted it to do. The writing was funny and heartfelt and raw, the characters delightful and the romance was spectacular. Absolutely recommend and shall shove in all of your faces!!!!! More in the GR review here and maybe its own review (idk if you wanna see that? lemme know) <3<3<3

Love On The Brain by Ali Hazelwood {★★★★½}: I had an inkling that this would do more for me than The Love Hypothesis did and I am usually right. And this one definitely did it for me. Boy was I LOVING the tension in this book OH GOSH. Ugh, we love to actually ship characters in books, because it’s the worst when I hardly give a smidge. I think I’ll be doing a full review closer to the release date, so I shall keep the lips sealed for now, but more in the GR review here. Huge thanks to Little Brown UK for the eARC, out 23 August xx

I’m either reading a lot or watching a lot and there’s never really an in-between. As is the case here, as I hardly watched a thing, except The Summer I Turned Pretty omg. Literally almost forgot that was last month and it would have been a shame because I AM OBSESSED!!!!! Ugh this show was *chefs kiss* and I am a Team Conrad fan till the day I die. If your ship is not that sweet boy, then you are just wrong. This was the PERFECT angsty show with an amazing soundtrack and stunning chemistry and it wasn’t corny and I looovvvveeedddd it <3<3<3

K go watch now bye because I have nothing else to talk about but I also want you to love it too *hides*

More next month???

Time is currently just a theory and I don’t have words. Apologies. The only relevant updates I have are that vacation has come and gone. I did not do much apart from reading and posting a ton of reviews. I went to the city, did some touristy things. Went bookshopping. Not much to update mental health wise, I’m just making progress in therapy and meds are going well. Again, I have more interesting stuff for July I think?

If you found this boring, then I completely understand your stance and you’ll have to excuse it today welp.

WHAT DID YOU GET UP TO IN JUNE? WHAT BOOKS DID YOU READ? WHICH WAS YOUR FAVOURITE? HAVE YOU READ ANY OF THE ONES I DID? HOW ARE DOING? I’D LOVE TO KNOW!

I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on these books, Ruby! I need to pick up an Emily Henry romance novel asap because I truly feel like I’m missing out. The way you talked about it made it sound amazing! (Also, I love a bit of a punch in my novels😁)

And “Time is currently just a theory and I don’t have words” is basically my mood exactly. These past 2-3 weeks have felt like years but also seconds. Vacantion kinda does that.

Hope you are having a great July!🤗

your description of the tropes in a thousand miles has definitely convinced me i need to read it. i don’t think i’ve read many road trip stories before, but estranged best friends to lovers sounds like something i would love!

i watched the summer i turned pretty and i enjoyed it as well! cameron was still my favorite boy haha but i liked the overall atmosphere and vibes of the show. it was certainly nostalgic and i am hyped for a season 2!
