GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:
In the kingdom of Sempera, time is currency—extracted from blood, bound to iron, and consumed to add time to one’s own lifespan. The rich aristocracy, like the Gerlings, tax the poor to the hilt, extending their own lives by centuries. No one resents the Gerlings more than Jules Ember. A decade ago, she and her father were servants at Everless, the Gerlings’ palatial estate, until a fateful accident forced them to flee in the dead of night. When Jules discovers that her father is dying, she knows that she must return to Everless to earn more time for him before she loses him forever. But going back to Everless brings more danger—and temptation—than Jules could have ever imagined. Soon she’s caught in a tangle of violent secrets and finds her heart torn between two people she thought she’d never see again. Her decisions have the power to change her fate—and the fate of time itself.
MY THOUGHTS
Okay so WOW. I told ya’ll that I was in a little bit of a slump and I read the synopsis and I immediately thought that I NEED to read this and from page one I was hooked! It was such a fun book and SO GOOD for a debut! It just had such a fun time with this. I was invested in the characters and the plot is very unique and in my opinion really well done.
Okay go away if you haven’t read this yet.
So it took a while to get a hang of the world but once I did I WAS SO INTO IT. It’s so interesting and well written and I really enjoyed how it was woven into the actual plot. The book just gets better as you go on and every time you pick it up you’re even more intrigued than you were before, and I was just enveloped in the story. I also found that I could just fly through it. (it took me so long because I had yet another 3 day slump)
So thinking about it now, I don’t really love the characters, I like them and their storylines and enjoyed reading from Jule’s perspective, but they don’t have that aspect that I love in characters. Don’t get me wrong I was really enjoyed reading about them. I enjoyed the plot twists but I may or may not have wanted to check how pages there were and spoiled something for myself #mylife. The Gerling brothers were really well written and I was kind of rooting for Liam, but I also really liked Roan. I loved Ina. I loved Jule’s back story and how it was introduced and woven into the story.
I really loved the writing style. It was easy to follow and read. THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD BOOK OMG?! Wait I already said that. Characters are great. Plot is EPIC. Writing is great. When is book two coming?
HAVE YOU READ THIS BOOK YET? WHAT DID YOU RATE IT? DID YOU LIKE IT? LET ME KNOW
