Synopsis:
Sometimes to find the good, you have to embrace the bad.
Budding photographer Josie Saint-Martin has spent half her life with her single mother, moving from city to city. When they return to her historical New England hometown years later to run the family bookstore, Josie knows it’s not forever. Her dreams are on the opposite coast, and she has a plan to get there.
What she doesn’t plan for is a run-in with the town bad boy, Lucky Karras. Outsider, rebel…and her former childhood best friend. Lucky makes it clear he wants nothing to do with the newly returned Josie. But everything changes after a disastrous pool party, and a poorly executed act of revenge lands Josie in some big-time trouble—with Lucky unexpectedly taking the blame.
Determined to understand why Lucky was so quick to cover for her, Josie discovers that both of them have changed, and that the good boy she once knew now has a dark sense of humor and a smile that makes her heart race. And maybe, just maybe, he’s not quite the brooding bad boy everyone thinks he is…

STAR RATING: (4.5 out of 5 stars)

This might be 1 year late, but hey, at least I’m a couple of books closer to saying I’ve read everything this woman has written, and my life’s purpose would be complete. You think that’s a joke…
Anyways, whilst this one sits probably last in my ranking of JB’s books, that isn’t because I didn’t love it. I mean its like only a teensy half star off.

We’ll start off with maybe my favourite part, which is the setting, because Jenn never fails in this department and ofc this one is no different. You WILL be visiting this seaside town and living in an apartment above a bookstore.
Josie is an absolute sweetie pie who I would say you often want to strangle, but we will be blaming her family for this. But I loved her. I loved her obsession with photography and her humour. And ofc I love Lucky because I can never help myself.
And did I mention the charismatic childhood bff drives a motorcycle? GO READ THE BOOK NOW.
I think my criticism is that the ending was slightly rushed, and I never quite got the closure I was looking for. But that’s literally it because Bennett is a genius and I adore everything she writes.
Quick moment to be very excited for her upcoming new adult romance GIVE IT TO ME RACHEL

Anyways, if you’re looking for your next vacation read, we got you. And then come back and be obsessed with me because I’m sick of being on this island alone, I need more freaks with me!!!

“We need art to remind us that the struggle is worth something.

“Even little trees cast big shadows when the sun is setting”

“Because I saw you, and it just felt like everything that had gone wrong in my life just magically healed, like I’d been walking around all broken, and all my broken pieces suddenly reconnected.”
📸
“The thing about being this close to someone is that when you hurt them, you hurt yourself.”
📸
“No one looks at me like Lucky does. It’s disarming. Way too intimate.”
📸
“But I still want him. The worst part is that he knows. He sees it all over my face, the wanting, and he lights up like a skyscraper at midnight.”

“He runs the back of his index finger over the inside of my wrist. Barely a touch at all. I hold my breath as waves of shivers casacade over my skin.”
