2021 READING AND BLOGGING RECAP // last year in review ft. 2022 tbr, reading challenges, pie charts & new years goals
Hi hello to my first post of the year! I didn’t realise it was the first until now and in general, it’s very late. I tried to get this recap post up a lot earlier, but I’m going to cut myself some slack because last year I highlighted how I once posted this in April so… I think I deserve a pat on the back, eh? Anyways, I’m here semi on time and perhaps less enthusiastic than usual. But I’m a stats freak now and at least I’m getting out some content, right? I hope you’re okay with Ruby being slightly off-beat today. 2021 absolutely sucked and I hated it and am glad its over, but hey, the reading was good! Mostly keeping this post the same as last time, though adding a couple of sections to it. I didn’t do a mid-year check-in because,,, life. Since I didn’t get the chance to build any anticipation, here’s your chance to take your guesses on whether or not there will be a high amount of ebooks and romance in this post *hides* But anyways, let’s dive right in! READING STATS AND OVERVIEW You know, I’m actually really chuffed with reading overall…

THE MORE THAN 21 TOP BOOKS ON MY 2021 TBR // a very long list of backlist, 2019 and 2020 titles I’ve neglected (pray for me!!) ft. worst books of 2020
Yes, you did just read the title correctly. This list is going to be extremely long and I am already scared. Welcome to the second-last post of my end of year posts. Though the list is very long, this post is going to be rather short because there are just TOO many books to talk about them all *nervous laughter* If you didn’t know, 2020 was a failure of a year in terms of reading books on my physical tbr, among a plethora of other reasons. I say that with no exaggeration on the behalf of the entire world. But I did want to do this post again so I can have a list to look back on. I’m putting no pressure on myself as I clearly failed at the last one but having this list out in the universe might urge me just a smidge. Trying not to jinx it here folks. I’m dividing this up into a few sections because… well honestly I don’t know why I just feel like it. No surprise there. Let’s get into it!! TOP 21 BOOKS TO READ IN 2021 My priority list hasn’t changed since last year apart from one other which…

BOOKS I NEED TO READ BY AUTHORS I LOVE // dear fave authors, my deepest apologies for being a terrible fan
I am currently an exhausted corpse. That is all. Jk no. But I’m so over university assignments and have no motivation anymore welp. This is a really random post idea. But I had this ongoing list (as per usual) and I thought LET’S JUST COMPILE INTO A POST. It’s been in drafts for approximately 1000 years and I’m feeling 0 creativity at the moment so we’re just gonna go ahead and post. There’s not much else to say really HA. I’m a bit of a mess. Before we get into it, I urge you to educate yourself on what is happening in Nigeria at the moment and to help #EndSARS in any way you can – click HERE MADE YOU UP BY FRANCESCA ZAPPIA I absolutely ADORE Francesca Zappia’s second novel Eliza & Her Monsters, it’s like my favourite standalone of all time. I just… cannot even put into words how hard it hit me. I related to the main character(s) on a whole other level. And it just WOW. IT’S SO GOOD!! I saw this one at a book sale and immediately bought it because I loved her other book so much. And I’ve actually heard mixed things about…

2019 BOOK RELEASES I HAVEN’T READ YET // my extended 2020 tbr list ft. the amazing books i missed out on last year
I don’t even know why I’ve been so excited to write this post since I’m literally just calling myself out on all the books I didn’t read last year. Go me… on brand?? Truly it is. We know I’m on brand when this post is so old that I’ve had to take books off this list already since it’s… May. Wow, Ruby wow. Hopefully, I’m not setting myself up for failure this year. But I’m thinking I can do this. I made my most anticipated 2020 releases quite short so fingers crossed. This is also technically a list of books I want to get to this year, thereby it is my extended 2020 tbr. However, if you’d like to see my official 2020 tbr then you can click here! Eeppp, just watch this catastrophically E-X-P-L-O-D-E. Here’s to my failure. Cheers *clinks glass* FANTASY We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal I just KNOW I’m going to enjoy this one, it was one of the few YA fantasy releases that I was genuinely interested in last year. Fantasy and I have been having an iffy relationship lately whoops. I’ve interacted with the author a little bit too and she’s SO nice.…

TOP 20 BOOKS TO READ IN 2020 & NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS // this is incredibly late but hi reading and blogging goals ft. an ambitious tbr
Okay wow, this post is a tad late. I literally forgot that I hadn’t posted this and it’s been ready for MONTHS. Sorry about that. Better late than never though right? I’m jumping on the ’20 books to read in 2020′ bandwagon. I’m going to keep this short because I do have a sort of second instalment to this post planned with 2019 releases. Keep ya eyes peeled. And then I also had some new year’s reading resolutions so I thought I’d just combine those two posts into one. So it might be a whole mess. Have fun? TOP 20 BOOKS TO READ IN 2020 So instead of listing off why I want to read 20 books, which I’ve come to realise is not a practical idea and will be boring, I’m just going to name some that I HAVE TO GET TO. Like when 2021 comes around, anybody and everybody has permission to punch me in the face if I still haven’t read them. And then just a smol list of some other titles *wink wink* ♥ the priority list!! Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo: Caitlin and I are going to buddy read the series this year so…

BOOKS I WANT TO REREAD ASAP // ft. old favourites, wondering if opinions would change and series continuations
Hey hey hey people. This post has been sitting in drafts for aeons and it’s kind of ashaming. But that’s life for ya. I have to resist the urge to reread like ALL the books because otherwise, my TBR pile will murder me. And I’m still a youngin’ with a long life ahead of me so I think I should spend my time maybe not dying? Even though I kinda am already because the other books I read murder me anyway. You just can’t win tbh. Anyways, Idk if this post is dumb but I had a list of books in my mind that I wanted to reread and I thought why not do a whole blog post about them?? This post might be a failure, feel free to click out now. But um yeah let’s just get into this post?? PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS BY RICK RIORDAN This series was one of the first series I ever got into. I think I read them like 5 years ago? I even low-key really enjoyed the movies at first, until I read the books, and was like YEAH NOPE. But my siblings have been reading them and I just feel…

SPOOKY (AND CREEPY) BOOKS I WANT TO READ THIS HALLOWEEN SEASON // aka an ambitious reading list from a scaredy cat
Hi hello, yes you are on my blog. Fun fact about yours truly: I’m the biggest wimp out there… So why am I making a Halloween reading list you ask? You know, not even I can answer that very valid question. Literally cannot handle horror AT ALL. I will get nightmares and creepy faces will stare at me for a solid day. I can handle some gore, not all of it. But creepy people NO THANK YOU. Anyways, I did this post last year. It may be bad but you can go and read if you want I guess. But because it’s Halloween, even though where I live people don’t really do anything, I feel like reading spooky and mysterious books. Which you will see is what makes up this list. So let me stop rambling and actually get into THE BOOKS. also yes I am semi-dividing these books into genres but some of them belong in other sections as well but am we’re just going to roll with it PARANORMAL: The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken: I love Alex’s books. I know it’s not everyone’s favourite and the genre has died out but The Darkest Minds…

HALLOWEEN PLANS // spooky and scary stories i plan to consume
I’m not usually a fan of scary stuff. We don’t really do Halloween in South Africa, even though I’d love to dress up and get free chocolate a girl can dream. But I have really been in the mood for spooky stories and there a few I think I’d enjoy, so here we are today. They’re mainly books but I did include a show, so let’s just get into it! City of Ghosts by V.E. Schwab I don’t know why I haven’t read this book yet. I have the audiobook downloaded and it’s super short. I started it but haven’t gotten round to finishing it. It seems like the perfect Halloween book so I need to get on this! Mara Dyer trilogy by Michelle Hodkin At first, I thought I wouldn’t be interested in these books but recently, I’ve been really wanting to read them. The whole unreliable main character intrigues me and I have a feeling I’ll love Noah Shaw. I have no idea what to expect and I know I’ll be freaked out but I need to read it anyway?? The Diviners by Libba Bray I have a newfound love for historical fiction and this book sounds…

10 LGBTQIAP+ BOOKS ON MY TBR
Since it’s PRIDE MONTH I thought I’d give you a list of LGBTQIAP+ books I really would like to read because I haven’t read enough to give you recommendations or anything. There are so many books that look awesome and amazing!! 1) Aristotle & Dante Discover The Secrets of The Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz I know this is a well-loved book and that there should be a sequel coming soon. From what I gather its a gay coming of age story with a friendship and what I assume a road trip. I mean from the synopsis I already want it NOW because its something I think I’d love. Ari and Dante are complete opposites but manage to break down each other’s walls and it sounds amazing and heart-wrenching. Click here to read more. 2) Carry On by Rainbow Rowell I don’t know if you know but I adore Rainbow’s writing and I truly don’t know why I haven’t read this. It’s similar to Harry Potter and also has an unlikely gay romance. Rainbow’s writing is how I want to write and I just adore it. I read a few of short stories last year and, again, adored them so…
