MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIES OF 2020 // being blessed with the book adaptations and more exciting releases
So um hi, it has been a while since I talked about movies over here. It’s just been BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS. It’s also been a while since I posted, my January recap is late, but I really wanted to get this up. Yeah, I started uni and it’s been quite hard. So I disappeared off the internet for a bit. Whoops.
Anyways, I KNOW I always do these posts late, I just never get the time to do them before the end of the year. AHHH A CONSTANT STRUGGLE.
Also, I hope I don’t bore you with this content, as I’d really like to start doing more movie posts. I hardly watched any movies last year which is why they were so scarce. But I have a ton of ideas for this year and I guess we’ll see what happens.
Anyways, without further ado let us just get into it.
ANIMATION
Onward (4 March 2020): All I needed to know was that Tom Holland is in this movie. Well, he’s a voice actor. Same difference. Also, there are purple men. I need it in my life. Oh and Chris Pratt but eh I don’t care about him as much.
Soul (17 June 2020): this movie looks so adorable. It’s a Pixar film from the creators of Inside Out which I really liked. And I love Pixar movies so, me = excited.
Raya and the Last Dragon (25 November 2020): I don’t know much about this movie, it doesn’t have a poster or anything. BUT DID YOU SEE THE DRAGONS?!?
SUPER-HERO
The New Mutants (1 April 2020): guys I LOVE X-Men. And this is apparently like a darker, gorier version. Tbh I’ll probably have nightmares but it’s fine. Who am I kidding, course I will. Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things is in it, along with some other people I don’t know whoops. Look I never said I was a film buff. But this movie has POTENTIAL!!
Wonder Woman 1984 (4 June 2020): I don’t really remember what happened in the first one, well vaguely, I do remember quite liking it. It’s this POSTER which is HYPING ME UP.
The Eternals (4 November 2020): guys we hardly know ANYTHING about this movie but the cast is STELLAR. This a Marvel film starring Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harrington and appears to be about this race of immortal beings? Something like that. It seems cool and I’m here for it.
BOOK-TO-MOVIE ADAPTATIONS
To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (12 February 2020): I mean?? This HAS to be on the list. The first To All The Boys was SPECTACULAR. Perfection. An adaptation masterpiece. This movie literally came out today (whoops I did tell you this post was late) AND OMG I AM FREAKING DEAD IT WAS BRILLIANT!!! Literally I am d-e-a-d!!! So when are we getting the third one? Please and thank you.
Little Women (21 February 2020): It’s one of my 2020 goals to read more classics, including Little Women. I’ve seen the 90s adaptation, also with an amazing cast, which I really liked. But Greta Gerwig and also omg EMMA WATSON, TIMOTHEE CHALAMET AND SAOIRSE RONAN!!! They’re all incredible. Florence Pugh also seems amazing so I AM very excited to go see this. Oh and yes I do know it came out last year, but I recently found out it only comes out in Feb in SA. Which sucks but anywaysssss.
All The Bright Places (28 February 2020): haven’t read the book, nor do I think I will but since this is on Netflix I’ll probably watch it. I mean I really like Elle Fanning and if everyone talks about it then I’ll have no other choice but to see what the hype is about. Like obviously.
The Secret Garden (10 April 2020): omg I freaking love the 90s adaptation, it was one of my favourites as a child. I was literally OBSESSED. And I haven’t read the book either yet. But as soon as I saw there was another adaptation coming out which I shall FOR SURE be going to see. I don’t know much about it but the poster is super pretty!! Julie Walters is in it, who is always great. I’m very much looking forward to this
The Woman In The Window (14 May 2020): haven’t read the book either and again don’t plan on it. I heard there was some issue with the author don’t quote me though. But I LOVE Amy Adams and the concept will translate well to the big screen. This is a thriller though, which will scare me, as we’ve previously established. Yes, I do indeed want to scare myself like the responsible person I am.
Artemis Fowl (29 May 2020): this was supposed to come out last year, which it obviously didn’t. And apparently Disney has owned the rights ever since the books came out which means it’s long in the works. Again, haven’t read the books yet but I’d like to. Idk when but they sound great. Anyways, this movie looks really well made by the looks of the trailer. I’m intrigued.
LIVE-ACTION
Dolittle (1 January 2020): omg I literally wasn’t even interested in this movie until I by chance saw the trailer and I immediately was like OKAY I NEED TO SEE THIS. It was like The Jungle Book meets The Golden Compass meets Peter Pan and I,,, am ready for this awesome adventure film.
Peter Rabbit 2 The Runaway (27 February 2020): the first film was so cute and funny. I’ve always loved Peter Rabbit, they were some of my favourite books growing up as a kid. The first was super easy and enjoyable to watch and the trailer seems as if this instalment is just a continuation of the mayhem. WE’RE READY!
Wendy (28 February 2020): I didn’t even know this was a thing until I was doing research for this post. And it again looks scary. PRAY FOR ME. But I FINALLY read Peter Pan last year and thoroughly loved it. And I love all the Pan adaptations so this is definitely on my list. 2020 looks like it’s going to be the year of nightmares though… #notprepared
Mulan (25 March 2020): everyone was like TERRIFIED of this movie because so much is different from the original beloved animated film. Yet the trailer looks BADASS and AMAZING!! I really liked the original one and am sad that Shu won’t be in it, but like COME ON THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE SO EPIC!
And I think that’s it. I think I have all of them. But they’re super hard to find because you only really know when movies are going to be good whilst they’re coming out. But I did my best to find some good ones < 3
WHAT IS YOUR MOST ANTICIPATE FILM OF THIS YEAR? ANY FROM MY LIST? WHICH OTHERS ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THAT I DIDN’T TALK ABOUT? LET’S TALK MOVIES!!

I just added so many movies to my list because of this post! Wow! So many amazing releases! 😍 I’m most excited to watch Little Women but I think I want to read the book first?? Also, read All the Bright Places a year or two ago and cried for hours! I really ended up loving it but to be honest, I don’t think the movie will be as good as the book was to me, you know? Anyway, loved this blog post (as always) ✨

Ahhh thank you!! I am SO GLAD that you found some new ones. Same I’m going to read LW before the movie comes out (hopefully) hehe. Also it’s good to know you liked All The Bright Places, becauseI heard it wasn’t great and was slightly problematic. Maybe I will give it a try idk
