TROPES THAT SHOULD REALLY JUST LEAVE FOREVER

Okay, there are some tropes that just annoy the living daylight outta me and today we’re to name them. THE “DARK, BROODY, MYSTERIOUS LOVE INTEREST WHO’S PERSONALITY CONSTANTLY CHANGES” TROPE There’s (usually) always that one guy who is like a bad-boy and you can’t figure him out and he takes a liking to our main protagonist and they get along. Next day, the guy ignores her, or badmouthes or I dunno is just generally mean. Like dude, you don’t get to be like that. You’re giving the poor girl whiplash and just make us dislike you, especially if we have NO idea why you’re doing it. Can this trope just please stop? Like I enjoy a bad-boy, but gimme a back story as to why you’re being so moody. THE “FIRST PERSON POV WHO IS REALLY NOT INTELLIGENT AND/OR MAKES THE WORST DECISIONS” TROPE You’ve probably seen this many times but I really dislike first person point of view when this happens. They’ll drive me up a wall and makes the worst possible decisions and I have to sit in your head enduring physical and emotional pain? I did NOTHING to deserve this okay?! THE “I JUST GAINED AWESOME POWERS EVEN…

HI THERE NEW YEAR // let's talk 2018, reading + more goals & a tag

2017 flew by and now it’s 2018 and I have goals. I just wanted to chat about all the things I want to accomplish this year and just general things we talk about at the beginning of the year. READING GOALS I briefly discussed my reading goals in my End Of The Year Post there’s still more I want to talk about. I set my Goodreads goal to 30 books which mean I have to read at least 3 books a month, which is totally manageable, and that means I could read more if I have a lot of time, so that’s the first goal I also just want to read more in general, because I take WAY too long to get through books. I don’t want books to sit on my shelf, unread, for like 3 months, so that’s going to change I want to try and read more classics that I know I’ll enjoy My all time favourite genres are urban fantasy and contemporary, so I want to try to get into some good high fantasy There are so many anwesome blogs and bookstagram accounts and I want to comment more, so I can make more friends SHADOWHUNTER CHRONICLES…

END OF THE YEAR POST // a tag, goals & favourite reads

So it’s the end of the year and it’s been pretty succesful book related to I have a few things I’d like to talk about before 2018 starts, so let’s just get into it. I’ve already done an entire post about new releases I want to read next year so click here for that. GOODREADS CHALLENGE I set this year’s challenge to 20 books because I started a bit late but I don’t exactly know what to set it for next year: I’m thinking maybe 35? Or even 40?? I’m just scared to push myself if I can’t read as much because next year is a hard school year. We’ll see… BEST READS OF THE YEAR     [[ more titles will probably be added because the year is not over yet so follow me on twitter and goodreads for all those updates ]] BEAT THE BACKLIST 2018 I found out about this via Twitter and though it looked fun. It’s basically a challenge where you have to read books that weren’t published that year so it decreases your TBR and you get assigned a team and the more books you read, the more points your team gets. It’s really…

    WHAT'S UP, WEDNESDAY!

Hi everyone! Exams have started so I’ve watched and read as many stories as I can in in preparation for the month of studying. Wish me luck… MOVIES I didn’t watch very many movies, but I enjoyed the ones I have I watched Spiderman Homecoming, and let me tell you how much I enjoyed it. I love Spiderman in general and this one was no let down. Tom Holland is great and cute and hilarious. I really enjoyed this one. I was in the mood for a teen romance movies, so I googled in and one of the first that popped up was Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging. The name was peculiar but I was intrigued. So I started watching and it was it bit immature for me at first,  but I started liking it toward the end. I’ve been re-watching old favourites and one that I really wanted to see if I still liked was High School Musical. Now, don’t judge. I still really enjoyed them. They’re so nostalgic. In fact, HSM was one of the first “fandoms” I was in. I have merch and all sorts of stuff for it. I overall had a fun time watching them…

    MY FAVOURITE SHIPS

Where have I been you say? Writing exams *sighs*. Sorry I haven’t been so active, but today let’s all gush over our favourite ships. FROM BOOKS….. My all time favourite and the first I ever really loved is Clace (Clary + Jace from The Mortal Instruments). Jace is bae and I was just living this ship. I still do love it and always enjoy seeing them in other Shadowhunter books. Now, before Clace (and that kind of romance) I loved Percabeth (Percy + Annabeth from Percy Jackson books). Percy was (and still is) hilarious. I will go down with this ship. They were just so cute and I love them dearly. Any other Anna and Etienne shippers? (Do they even have a ship name??)  I loved them from the start. Anna & The French Kiss is my all time favourite contemporary. I just love them so much. From the early days of YA and most probably also say this: Edward and Bella (again, no ship name?) from Twilight. I’m sure we’ve all been there. I thought they were perfect for each other. I think their ship name is Everlark (Katniss + Peeta from The Hunger Games). Again, I was in…

    INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR PENNY JOELSON

Hi there everyone, Penny Joelson is the author of the YA novel I HAVE NO SECRETS, which is a mystery thriller that you should totally check out. Here is a link to her website http://www.pennyjoelson.co.uk/ I have a review for this book – click here. I’ve had the great privilege to ask her some questions. I highly recommend you go and read this book. Penny is such a lovely person and I really loved speaking to her. I hope you enjoy! *There are a few mild spoilers ahead* Where did this story start and develop? What was your inspiration? I had the idea of writing a thriller in which the person who knows who committed the murder is unable to tell anyone. Jemma’s character came to me quite fully formed. She came out of my experience of working with people with cerebral palsy though she wasn’t based on any particular person. I was also inspired by a play called ‘Paula’s Story’ about the life of Paula Rees, who has cerebral palsy and wasn’t able to communicate until she was ten, when someone discovered if they supported her arm that she could point to a letter board. From that point on she…

    MY POTTERMORE SORTING STORY

I thought this would be fun to share with everyone. I have multiple accounts because why not? And don’t we all? Anyway lemme share with you today’s weird post FIRST ACCOUNT Hogwarts House: Gryffindor Wand: Spruce wood with a Unicorn hair core 10 ¾” and Brittle flexibility Patronus: Kingfisher Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird Inside, I’m a Gryffindor. I love the house. Proabably because it’s the house we’re most familiar with. I like being in this house. When I was actually being sorted, I thought long and hard about my answers. I’m cool with the wand. I also think my patronus is a pretty elegant animal so I like that too. Don’t know much about Ilvermorny houses, but the name of mine is cool. SECOND ACCOUNT Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw Wand: Pine wood with a Unicorn hair core 10 ¾” and Brittle flexibility Patronus: Weasel Ilvermorny House: Wampus I was thoroughly suprised when I got results of this account. I really like Ravenclaw and I always thought I might be sorted into this house. Again, my wand is cool. I like unicorns so… I just laugh at my patronus. It’s quiet comical to me. And I don’t know much about Wampus. THIRD ACCOUNT Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff…

    ANOTHER WHAT'S UP, WEDNESDAY!

Holidays have started. Yay! So I have a lot of spare time to do whatever I want. I have time to read, binge series, chat more with you guys and post more on social media. I posted like 4 photos on my Instagram yesterday, if you want to check those out, be sure to check out my other social media because I tweet quite often too. Links are in blog header, but all my usernames are @rubyraereads MOVIES I haven’t really watched any movies since last week’s post. I did re-watch The Duff because I loved that movie the first time When the first movie came out, I was obsessed, but I was still young and didn’t know much about movies. Descendants 2 is not as good, but I did like the story. It was okay. I seriously feel like re-watching Harry Potter so I might do that. I also want to start the Lord of The Rings movies again because I loved The Hobbit movies. I should seriously get to read them too. But they’re very intimidating. TV SHOWS I have only a few tv shows to tell you guys about: I started Game of Thrones. What?! I’m enjoying,…

MY FAVOURITE BOOKS FROM MY FAVOURITE SERIES

My first ever post was my all-time favorite series (click here to view). We all love one book more than another from our favourite series, so I want to share mine with you. Harry Potter (by J.K. Rowling) is awesome. I don’t where you have been if you’ve never heard of it. But I think my favourite of those books has to be Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. It’s such a good book and I love it so much. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare is that series that I was obsessed with and couldn’t put down. There are two books that I can’t really decide between: City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire. I think it might have to go to CoHF, but I genuinely love them both equally. I also love City of Fallen Angels. Arghhh this is too hard. Please don’t make me choose. I want to go to Camp Half-Blood. It’s next to Hogwarts for me. Anyways, I love Percy Jackson & The Last Olympian (by Rick Riordan from Percy Jackson & The Olympians). It’s great. I also really enjoyed Percy Jackson & The Battle Of The Labyrinth. Percy is awesome. Go and read it…
